Who We Are

We’re Robert and Michaela Crawford, the owners of Crawford’s Gun Dogs in Northern Illinois.

Our journey with dogs didn’t start with breeding—it started with giving dogs a second chance. We began by fostering dogs in need, and that passion has never left us. We continue to actively foster and rescue today while also dedicating ourselves to responsibly breeding purpose-bred Labrador Retrievers and German Shorthaired Pointers.

We strongly believe there is room for both. We’re passionate about well-bred, thoughtfully planned dogs, but we’re just as committed to helping dogs that deserve another opportunity at a loving home. To us, responsible breeding and rescue aren’t opposing ideas. Both have an important place in improving the lives and future of dogs.

Since 2018, we’ve enjoyed competing with our dogs in a variety of sports, while also spending countless days doing what we love most—hunting with them. We appreciate a dog that can spend the morning in a duck blind or pheasant field, compete in dock diving, agility, or obedience, and then come home and be part of the family.

That versatility is a big part of what we strive for in our breeding program. Every breeding is carefully planned with a purpose. Health is always our first priority, followed closely by temperament and proven working ability. Our goal is to produce highly trainable, versatile dogs with sound minds, strong natural instincts, and the ability to succeed in whatever is asked of them.

Whether you’re looking for a hunting partner, a competitive performance dog, or an active family companion, our goal is to raise dogs that can truly do it all.

And no matter where Crawford’s Gun Dogs takes us, we’ll never forget where our journey started or the dogs still waiting for their second chance.
